“Teddy”from Eritrea Wins asylum!

Nonprofit Navigators is so proud to have been a part of this success story shared from Colorado Immigrant Justice Fund:

According to Human Rights Watch, the African country of Eritrea continues “to severely repress its population, imposing restrictions on freedom of expression, opinion, and faith, and restricting independent scrutiny by international monitors.”

After “Teddy” spoke out against the Eritrean government, he was imprisoned. He was eventually able to escape prison and complete a long and dangerous trip to the US. After requesting asylum, he was imprisoned in a US detention center.

A CIJF-funded attorney took up his case and helped him win asylum. Today, Teddy is a free man living in the US.

As a young nonprofit, this year was our first opportunity to participate in Colorado Gives Day, and we had no idea what to expect. 

Much to our delight, 46 of you donated a total of $4,285. Thank you!

In addition, a generous friend has committed to match year-end donations - up to $10,000, and we are halfway to that goal! 

We partner with generous attorneys who often take on asylum cases at reduced “low bono” rates. As a result, for every $2,000 that is donated, we are able to fund an asylum case.
